According to a statement by ISPR, the Corps commanders resolved to "fight against terrorists without any distinction and eliminate this menace as per the aspirations of the people of Pakistan".

However, former IGP Ihsan Ghani - a veteran of Pakistan's counterterror wars as chief of KP police, and later as head of NACTA - responded with a curt "deja vu".

Others called for more robust action, and sustained security sector reforms, as opposed to mere statements of resolve.

Observers and analysts were keen to read into the ISPR's press release and other outcomes of the Corps Commanders Conference, especially as it would relate to a new Pakistani counterterror operation against violent non-state actors.

The corps commanders conference holds immense significance as it is the top decision-making body of the powerful military. The conference was held at a time when Pakistan has been facing relentless attacks from terrorists in KP and Balochistan, particularly across the tribal regions and in areas bordering Afghanistan.
