280 Arrested In Lahore For Violating 'Kite Flying Act' During December
The Lahore police arrested 280 accused for violating the Kite Flying Act during the current month alone. Police also recovered 2,329 kites and 273 string wheels from the accused.

This follows successive Punjab governments' drives to outlaw Basant, a popular festival in Lahore and across Punjab till it became "too dangerous to be regulated" and since 2007 has banned by law.

Records show that Lahore police has arrested 6,588 accused over violation of the Kite Flying Act, and recovered more than 64,000 kites in addition to 8,914 string wheels from the accused, during the ongoing year (2022).

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Ghulam Mehmood Dogar instructed the 'anti-kite flying' teams to speed up operations against persons involved in kite flying and related activities. He added that "loss of precious human lives due to kite flying would not be tolerated".
