Afghan Taliban Shelling Kills 7 Pakistani Civilians In Chaman

On Sunday 11 December, Taliban border forces attacked Pakistani areas after another dispute erupted at the Chaman-Spin Boldak border. ISPR confirmed seven Pakistani civilians were killed while 17 others, including children, were injured. The heavy weapons fire hit residential areas in Chaman, as well as a market close to the Pak-Afghan border.

Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with "authorities in Kabul" but none of the official statements on the incident explicitly mentioned the Taliban. Instead, the attack is being attributed to "unprovoked and indiscriminate fire" from "Afghan Border Forces".

On 13 November this year, a 'rogue' Taliban fighter attacked Pakistani security personnel at the Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing, killing at least one soldier and wounding others. These incidents raise serious concerns about Pakistan's security along its western frontier, as the TTP has also recently vowed to renew its attacks.
