Former Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) chairman Absar Alam questioned on Monday what ties did the ARY Group have with the “DHA” that the latter was succumbing to blackmail by the former.

The veteran journalist made the comments in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. He said PTI chairman Imran Khan, the BOL Group and ARY were all proteges of the establishment except that now they had turned on their mentor.

Commenting on the conclusion of contempt proceedings against Imran, Alam said the development enabled all and sundry to hurl threats at judges. They can, he said, now also secure pardon without having to present an apology.

He said he had been witnessing court turnabouts since long. Alam said he was yet to witness this, however, impact any judges conscience.

The establishment, he said, worked for the welfare of the people world over. He said the retainers of the British Raj had, however, become the ruling elite in Pakistan. The establishment, he said, would never let a genuine political movement taste success.

Coulumnist Muzamal Suharwardy said PTI chairman Imran will definitely be disqualified before the next general elections. He said he was more than willing to bet on this.

Suharwardy said the IHC decision to conclude contempt proccedings against Imran was a miscarriage of justice. He said varying standards of justice prevailed in line with one’s popularity.

He said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz had her passport seized in a case where a reference was yet to be filed. This was a grave injustice, Suharwardy said.

He said Javed Iqbal had been named National Accountability Chairman (NAB) top boss becuase he would orchestrate such developments on Imran’s whims.

Flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
