Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s public statements about the army totally contradict what the former prime minister has to say about the institution off-camera, veteran journalist Absar Alam said.
He expressed the views while speaking in Naya Daur‘s flagship programme Khabbar Se Aagey on Tuesday. Imran said in a gathering that he engages in constructive criticism of the army for the institution’s own betterment but what he has to muse about the military and the language he employs is known to everybody, the former PEMRA chairman.
The hypocrisy, he said, did not befit a leader of Imran’s stature. “Why dont judges and generals note these contradictions,” Absar questioned. Terming Imran’s recent anti-military broadside “unfortunate”, he asked what authority did the PTI chief have to claim that he would not permit the ruling coalition to appoint the next army chief.
The erstwhile Pemra chief said those who brought Imran to power should hang their heads in shame. If this is the transformation they aspired to bring about, they should welcome him with open arms, he said.
