Modi Invokes 'Spirit Of 1971' As Sheikh Hasina Tours New Delhi on State Visit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday invoked 'the spirit of 1971' during a meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina – who is currently on a three-day sate visit to India – at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

Modi told journalists friendship between India and Bangladesh will scale new heights in the next 25 years.  Cooperation between the countries had been growing rapidly across every field in the last few years, he said. The Indian prime minister said cooperation against terrorism and fundamentalism was discussed during the meeting. He said it was imperative that the two states together confront such forces aspiring to comprise mutual trust in the spirit of 1971.

Last month, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momen had said that he had urged the Indian government to help Dhaka maintain stability and harmony. The minister had said that Bangladesh desired stability and “if we [Bangladesh and India] can do this, it will be meaningful in this golden chapter of our relations”.

Momen had said that Bangladesh remained stable whenever Hasina was in power. “The development journey remains uninterrupted when there is stability,” he had added. The Bangladesh FM had also told the Indian government Dhaka will continue to develop and become a country free of communalism under the leadership of Hasina.
