Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has claimed that military had nothing to do with a narcotics case against him.
The minister made the remarks in an interview with a private television channel. Sanaullah said COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa had told him that he had been snared in a false case. The military had nothing to do with it, Sanaullah quoted the top military boss as having told him.
He said the two had exchanged thoughts on the sidelines of a briefing. The encounter, he said, dated back to when the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was in opposition.
Sanaullah said he had bemoaned to the army chief about having been named in a false case. He said Bajwa had categorially dispelled any notion about the army having to do anything with the case.
The interior minister said it stood proven that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan had been coercing the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other state institutions to frame those opposed to him in false cases. He said the former prime minister had also had a video of the National Accountability Bureau chief leaked to pressurise him into doing the same.
The former Punjab law minister was arrested by an ANF team in July, 2019 for allegedly possessing 15 kilogrammes of heroin in his vehicle. A special team of the force had also arrested five others, including the driver and security guards of the PML-N leader.
