Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has visited flood-affected areas of Balochistan to review the rescue and relief operations being done after heavy monsoon rains in the province.

Floods have wreaked havoc in Balochistan’s Jhal Magsi and Lasbela districts. More than 6,000 houses have been completely damaged, and over 10,000 houses are partially damaged.

During his visit today, the prime minister met the flood-affected people and assured them that his government is committed to rehabilitating all flood-affected people.

The premier announced Rs1 million compensation for the families whose members lost their lives in the rains, and Rs500,00 for the people whose houses were completely destroyed, and Rs200,000 for those whose houses were damaged by more than 30 per cent.

He said that a federal government's committee would conduct surveys in liaison with the provinces. The committee will also remain in touch with Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, he added.

He further said that more than 300 people have been killed in rain-related incidents across the country.

The PM also issued instructions to expedite the pace of relief operations, provide more boats and rations, and set up medical camps in the flood-affected areas.
