The Karachi police have registered four cases against Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairperson Mustafa Kamal and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Hussain Rizvi as well as hundreds of their workers, for involvement in violence during the NA-240 by-poll in Karachi.
On Thursday, one person was killed and over a dozen were injured during violent clashes among workers of Mutahida Qaumi Movement-P (MQM-P), PSP and TLP during the by-poll.
The PSP had said that its senior leaders and election office were attacked during the polls, adding that TLP workers had fired at Mustafa Kamal during a media talk. It had further said that Kamal was also attacked by MQM-P workers in Landhi-6.
On the other hand, MQM-P MPA Khawaja Izharul Hassan had said that at least eight MQM-P workers were beaten up by PSP members in the presence of the police and Rangers.
The police said that the cases were filed under terror and murder charges on complaints of presiding officers of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the state at Landhi and Korangi police stations.
“Police have detained 258 suspects including some security guards present during the violence.”
In his complaint, Landhi Police Station SHO Mohammed Amin Mughal said: "The TLP workers resorted to firing, resulting in the killing of a passerby and injuries to others.
"In the meantime, the PSP workers led by Mustafa Kamal also resorted to firing, causing injuries to some persons standing nearby who were later shifted to different hospitals."
