Two terrorists convicted for their plot to blow up the Sindh Assembly and other government buildings in Karachi have been sentenced to death while their three accomplices will serve three rigorous life sentences.

Zahidullah Suleman and Bismillah Haji Lala will serve three times life imprisonments before they are taken to the gallows.  The other three suspects have been identified as Muhammad Qasim, Inamullah Bilal and Gul Muhammad.

Special Court No.12 at the Anti-Terrorism Complex in Karachi Central Jail ruled on the case, finding the men guilty of conspiring to wage war against the state, suicide bombings, a well as possession of explosives, police encounter and attempted murder.

The court ruled that Suleman had intended to wage a suicide attack in a rickshaw outside the Sindh Assembly on orders from a man only identified as Colonel Bismillah, who was found to be working for the Afghan intelligence, and later the Indian intelligence agency RAW.

The suspects were arrested in February 2021. During police interrogation, the suspects relayed that they had hatched a plan to suicide bomb the Sindh Assembly, Karachi Stock Exchange, and other government buildings.  Taking the plan further, Lala had scouted out the locations, and police found videos of both buildings on his phone, as well as maps at his house.  Polie also recovered explosives, which were kept inside an unregistered rickshaw.
