Pakistan Army soldier Sepoy Sarfaraz Ali was killed in a volley of gunfire during an early morning terrorist attack on Friday on a military post in Jani Khel, located in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The 26-year-old soldier, who was a resident of Vehari in Punjab, was killed after terrorists opened fire on the military post on Friday morning.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement intimating that troops responded quickly and swiftly to the terrorists’ attack from their hide-out.

“Army troops initiated a prompt response and effectively engaged the terrorists’ location,” reported the ISPR.

In North Waziristan’s Miranshah area, security forces successfully completed an intelligence based operation, according to the statement from ISPR. Two terrorists were reportedly killed in the action, and another two were captured along with a cache of weapons and ammunition.

“Weapons and huge cache of ammunition including improvised explosive devices and rockets were also recovered from the terrorists,” the military’s media wing detailed.

The report added, ” [An] area clearance operation in progress to hunt down any other terrorist in the area.”

In 2021, 192 security forces personnel were killed in terrorist attacks in Pakistan, a 66 per cent increase in the casualties of Pakistani security forces from the year before. Pakistani security forces reported killing 188 militants and arresting at least 220 suspected militants throughout the year.
