Husain Haqqani Denies Allegation He Raised Funds For PPP During Ambassadorship
Former Pakistan Ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani has denied allegations leveled by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary that Haqqani raised funds for Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) while serving as envoy in the US from 2008-2011.

Fawad Chaudhary, while talking to the media, had alleged that Haqqani amassed millions of dollars in funds, for the party, through a company that had been set up by the PPP.

While responding to the allegations, Haqqani said that he was aware that the ruling party was facing difficulties over disclosing their foreign funding sources and Fawad came up with such frivolous allegations to divert attention from that. He added that the allegations leveled by Fawad were coming ten years later and without any proof. He advised Fawad to instead focus on providing a trail regarding the foreign funding sources of his party.

While defending himself, the former ambassador said that he had never gone to any party fundraising event during his three-year tenure. Haqqani added that records were present to verify his statement.

Haqqani said that his entire focus, during that time, was on improving the Pakistan-US relationship. He alleged that the only politician that visited the US for fundraising during that time was the current prime minster.
