PM Imran Directs Party Leaders To Highlight How PML-N Had 'Attacked' Judiciary In Past
Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokespersons to highlight how Pakistan Muslim League - N (PML-N) had in the past 'attacked' judges.

Geo reported that the PM's instructions come in light of former Gilgit-Baltistan chief judge's accusation that former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar had asked a high court judge to keep former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz in prison till the 2018 general elections. Nisar denied this claim.

Later, an audio clip was released by digital journalism platform FactFocus wherein Saqib Nisar could be purportedly heard saying to an unknown man that Nawaz Sharif has to be punished because “they” have decided to bring Imran Khan into power.

The former CJ's alleged voice could be heard saying, “Let me be a little blunt about it. Unfortunately, here it is the institutions that dictate judgements. In this case, we will have to punish Mian sahab (Nawaz Sharif). I have been told ‘we have to bring Khan sahib (Imran Khan) [into power].'”

The other man then says that the daughter [Maryam Nawaz] does not merit a sentence. Saqib Nisar then allegedly responds, “You are absolutely correct. I talked to my friends that something should be done about this but they did not agree. The independence of the judiciary will not remain. So, let it be.”

Reacting to the audio clip, the former chief justice said that the voice in the audio clip was not his.
