A video doing the rounds on social media shows a group of lawyers beating up a woman complainant inside the Malir Court. She was reportedly tortured for lodging a case against a lawyer who gave him a cheque that got bounced.
Sindh MPA Rabia Azfar Nizami shared the video on her Twitter account, demanding an amendment in the Legal Practitioner Act to prevent lawyers from engaging in such outrageous behaviour. Another version of the incident indicates that the woman was allegedly beaten by lawyers of her ex-husband.

The incident generated sharp criticism among social media users, many of whom lamented the now habitual use of violence by the lawyers.

Last week, more than a hundred lawyers attacked and ransacked the office of Assistant Commissioner (AC) Sialkot Sonia Sadaf. On the occasion, police registered a case against the lawyers under sections 440/341 and 186 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Naib Tehsildar Amir Adnan. The complainant said that around 100 lawyers had forcefully entered the office of the AC and thrown out the furniture.
This is not the first time that lawyers have engaged in such hooliganism. Back in 2019, lawyers attacked the Punjab Institute of Cardiology. The closed the entry and exit point of the hospital as a result of which three patients had died. And earlier this year, lawyers attacked the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and laid siege to the office of Chief Justice Athar Minallah.
