Alarm bells

With unemployed day labourers gathering at random places in Pakistani cities, begging for food rations and money, the law enforcement agencies have rung alarm bells and drawn up a confidential report. In it, they have informed the federal government that a breakdown of law and order is expected. There will be increased burglaries, hold ups, break-ins and even perhaps mob violence in certain localities. They have warned that the targets will be the affluent, and it may snowball into an uncontrollable situation. The report was issued early this week. The government has responded by saying they would discuss the matter next week. The news was leaked to the electronic media which desisted from publicising it, lest it cause large scale panic, and passed it to the print media for dissemination to decision makers.

Badmouthing brigade

As we know, The Great Khan’s Badmouthing Brigade is in full tilt on social media against many journalists particularly those who have dared ask critical questions of His Majesty. We hear A Sad Age is now in charge of the BB, as opposed to a former favourite who has now been consigned to oblivion. The captain and the crew work in tandem, we hear, fine tuning the expletives hurled at all and sundry.

Embarrassing

Afederal minister revealed to a friend that he finds it “embarrassing” to be sitting in a cabinet meeting where the Primus Inter Pares has two set responses to all the complicated issues that are discussed. One, he apparently turns to his head honcho and says, “what is your opinion”. Second, he sets up a “task force” to discuss the issue and report back and that’s that.
