The right people for that job


Daily Jang quoted Shehbaz Sharif of the PML-N as saying that Kashmir will be liberated not by PM Imran Khan (Imran Khan Niazi) but by his party (hum loog) under the leadership of former PM Nawaz Sharif.


A better container


Senator Faisal Javed of the PTI, according to Daily Jang (28 October 2019), claimed that it would have been better if Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman had taken the PTI’s container and in that case, he would not have gotten stuck at the overheard bridge. He further stated that the PTI’s container had been built keeping in view the construction of all bridges in Pakistan and that it could pass through anywhere in the country.


Washing stains


According to Daily Jang (29 October 2019), the PPP leadership were proposing a Train March after the Azadi March led by Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman. The report stated that the PPP leaders had proposed this to wash away the stain from the PML-N’s suggestions that they are engaged in friendly opposition (taakeh Muslim League Noon ki janib People’s Party per jo friendly opposition ka dagh laga hai, ussay dhoya ja sakay).


PM’s assessment


PM Imran Khan was quoted by Daily Jang (29 October 2019) as taking the view that the Azadi March was a means of blackmail. He expressed his position that everyone could get together and do anything including a march, but he would never grant an NRO. He further claimed that the reason for the Azadi March was not the failure but, in fact, the success of the Government – and that the Opposition were worried.


No problem


Qamar Zaman Kaira of the PPP, according to Daily Express (31 October 2019), said that if there were to be an in-house change in the government under the pressure from the Azadi March, he would have no objection. He further opined that Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman’s Azadi March was, in fact, a referendum on the performance of the government.


No fear


Federal Minister for Interior Ijaz Shah was quoted by Daily Dunya (01 November 2019) as saying that the government was not worried about the Azadi March, because the one who is afraid ends up dead (jo darr gya, wo marr gya). He asked whether he needed to dance to show the lack of fear.


Azadi Cuisine


It was reported by Daily Express (03 November 2019) that with the Azadi March protesters now in the federal capital, they began with a breakfast of naan, halwa, seviyan and tea. Ansar-ul-Islam leaders (salar) and volunters (raza-kar) had taken up their duties and had even apprehended a pickpocket stealing cell phones, handing him over to the authorities. Moreover, a food street had sprung up to serve the needs of the tent settlement of protesters, selling dahi bhallay, fruit chaat, chana chaat, popcorn, chana pulao and sugarcane juice among other items.

It was reported by Daily Jang (01 November 2019) that Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, addressing participants of the Azadi March at Gujar Khan, said that the Azadi March would remain a march and that it contained a sit-in protest (dharna), a rally (jalsa), a march and everything (aur sab kuch hai).


PM IK on the Maulana


PM Imran Khan, it was reported by Daily Express (02 November 2019), took the view that in the presnece of Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, there was no need for any Jewish conspiracy (Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman ke hotay huay Yahudi sazish ki zarurat nahin). He further claimed that the Maulana’s Islam ended with obtaining diesel permits and the Chairmanship of the Kashmir Committee.


Buzdar on illogical demands


Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar, according to Daily Dunya (03 November 2019), claimed that the demand for resignation from an elected Prime Minister was both illegal and unconstitutional. He further opined that no sane person could support such an illogical demand. He went on to predict that the Opposition would be unsuccessful in its agenda and that those who march will be left marching.
