Polite but firm

It’s good to see Young Bill taking centre stage with regard to his legacy and the late lamented Big Ben’s party. He’s been working quietly behind the scenes for some time to try and effect change and it hasn’t been easy, but every now and then, he succeeds in making a breakthrough. As in the case of relieving Sinned’s Octogenarian head honcho of his onerous duties and enabling a younger, better candidate to replace him. The story goes that MAS had been in the reckoning for the top slot for a long time, but Hubby was loath to make the change, preferring to stick with the elderly incumbent. It was Bill who made the decisive intervention -- during a meeting in Dubai, apparently -- when Hubby asked the elderly incumbent to make way for his replacement. The latter asked for “a three month period” in which to “exit with dignity” but Bill insisted, politely but firmly, that there would be no three month hiatus and that the new man had to be sworn in asap.

Shudder shudder

With allegations flying thick and fast about “deliberate leaks” which “violate national security”, and journos and ministers being put to the rack, we are reminded of a glaring double standard. We know that a plethora of information was coming out of top secret Apex Committee meetings as they happened. Reliable sources say that when the khakis met the civvies to discuss the Karachi operation, information was disseminated there and then via phones & social media to select media persons. These mid-meeting “leaks” from the khakis to their pets left the civilians gobsmacked and crippled honest discussion. But, shudder-shudder, let’s not call out these “leaks” or “national security breaches” for what they are. We know what happens to those who don’t tow the line.
