Union Council chairman sets up food cart in protest 

Reported in Jang (July 26, 2016) a union council chairman in Gujranwala set up a food cart selling Nans and Pakoras in front of the Commissioner’s Office in protest against lack of authority. He earned a significant amount of money and another union council chairman joined him. When the two public representatives tried to enter the office with some food for the commissioner, he called the police. Eventually, they negotiated with the additional commissioner while eating hot Nans.

Brawl at PTI rally in Rawalpindi 

Dunya reports (July 26, 2016) workers at the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf rally in Islamabad began to wrestle (gutham gutha) and also beat up reporters after a tussle (dheenga mushti) when a group of them insisted on taking a selfie with famous pop singer Abrarul Haq. They slapped, kicked and punched each other (laton, ghoonson aur thaprron say khoob tawazo ki), and attacked (pill parray) at the media men covering the violence.

PPP workers attack food

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (July 25, 2016) when food was served at the People’s Party workers convention in Multan, the activists attacked the dishes (toot parray). They did not see what came in their way (aao dekha na tao) and snatched food from each other.

Australian woman comes to Pakistan to marry Facebook lover 

According to Jang (July 27, 2016) a 56-year-old Australian woman came to Pakistan after she fell in love with a 28-year-old Pakistani man from Haveli Lakha. The two married in a court.

Family flees 8-year-old groom after police raid 

Dunya reports (July 27, 2016) when police raided a child marriage in Shorkot, the parents of the 8-year-old groom left him and ran away. The girl and her family also fled after tricking the police. The boy was left alone and kept crying (dhaarrain mar mar kar rota raha).

21 Faisalabad cops “disappear” after Kashmir election duty

After they were deployed to Azad Kashmir for election duty, 21 cops of Faisalabad police disappeared (ghaib) and did not report back, Express reports (July 28, 2016). The IG has asked for a probe.

Kalashnikovs cheaper than cellphones in Darra Adamkhel 

According to Nawa-e-Waqt (July 29, 2016) Kalashnikovs are being sold for less than the price of a smartphone in Darra Adamkhel. Craftsmen in the area can copy any gun in the world, and sell local-made Kalashnikovs for $125.

Man arrested for false report of son’s abduction

A man was arrested for filing a false police report of his son’s abduction after the boy was found at his house in Lahore, Express reports (July 31, 2016). He wanted to frame his relatives, who he was on bad terms with because of a property dispute.
