An old video of a reconstructed Taliban safehouse has gone viral on social media. Social media users are particularly amused by a scene in the video which shows a suicide bomber’s preparation room. On the walls of this room are paintings and photographs of the rewards the suicide bomber is promised in the afterlife; among pictures of succulent fruit and rivers of wine one can also spot photographs of Bollywood actresses such as Kajol and Rani Mukherjee.
The video, made by France 24, went viral after it was shared by a Delhi based journalist, Praveen Swami.
In the video, a Pakistan Army officer is giving a tour of the Taliban headquarters, which has been converted into a museum. It houses items collected from various military operations against the Taliban. “There were at least 300 of such safehouses of different sizes in North Waziristan,” the officer says. “We have collected all the equipment and objects taken from their caches.”
The officer shows an American Humvee which was captured by the Afghan Taliban and later seized by the Pakistan Army.
The officer then walks into a suicide bomber’s preparation room. “In this room, they have depicted a complete picture of paradise which will is supposedly waiting for the young suicide bomber. The young boy who is to become a suicide bomber was brought here and kept for a few days. He was told that when he will open his eyes in heaven rivers of wine and beautiful women will greet him.”
To depict the beautiful women waiting for a would-be suicide bomber, the Taliban seem to have placed photographs of renowned Bollywood actresses such as Kajol and Rani Mukherjee.
The video is now being widely shared on social media, with many users expressing amusement or outrage at the version of heaven being depicted for militants.
