Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Khan Tareen is all set to launch a new political party, reportedly with the name Pakistan Muslim League-Jinnah (PML-J), that would largely comprise dissident members of the PTI, mostly from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In his recent vlog, journalist, and anchorperson Ajmal Jami said that Tareen is holding meetings with the former leaders of the PTI who have announced their departure from the Imran Khan-led party following the May 9 riots in which the party workers vandalized the military installations and state property.
Tarren is in contact with more than 120 dissident members of the PTI, including Malik Amin Aslam and Fawad Chaudhry. Former PTI leader and former close aide of Imran Khan, Aun Chaudhry, has confirmed that Fawad Chaudhry has been in contact with Tareen for a long time.
Tareen, along with his group, also met former PTI leader Aleem Khan in Lahore.
In the past, the nation witnessed that when the Muttahida Qaumi Movement dissolved, the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) under the leadership of Mustafa Kamal emerged, but the party failed to achieve a major victory in the elections.
While drawing comparisons between Jahangir Tareen and Mustafa Kamal, Jami said that Kamal doesn’t have a plane, an ATM (cash machine), or sufficient electable candidates. Whereas Tareen has all this, he added.
Jami also said that there were rumors circulating that President Arif Alvi would also announce his departure from the PTI. He added that there was also a rumor that President Alvi would not part ways with the PTI, but he would not hold back from signing the documents sent to him by the cabinet. President Alvi opted for the second option, and the Supreme Court Review of Judgement and Order Act came into effect.
Jami mentioned that he discussed the new law with senior lawyer Irfan Qadir and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar. He said that this law would not enable Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to challenge his disqualification, as he had already used the appeal option in the past. However, the Supreme Court Procedure and Practise Bill, which has yet to be passed, would pave the way for Nawaz to challenge his disqualification, he said, citing Nazeer Tarar.
