Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir reiterated on Monday that the recent attacks on military installations and memorials were "intolerable", accouncing that May 25 will now be observed as the Martyrs Day.
He made the remarks in a ceremony held at the GHQ, Rawalpindi, to honour the martyrs, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
"A strong army guarantees the security and unity of the country," the COAS stressed, and expressed grief at the recent attacks on military installations and memorials, terming such actions "intolerable".

During the ceremony, attended by a large number of senior military officers and families of martyrs, Gen Asim awarded military honours to the officers and men of the army for their "bravery and outstanding service to the nation during operations".
The military's media affairs wing further said that 51 kins of martyrs received Sitara-e-Imtiaz (military) while 22 officers and jawans were awarded Tamgha-e-Basalat. Two officers were awarded the United Nations Special Medal.
Last week, Gen Asim said the legal process of trial against planners, instigators, abettors and perpetrators involved in May 9 tragedy has commenced under the Pakistan Army Act and Official Secrets Act as per existing and established legal procedures derived from the Constitution of Pakistan.
The COAS had also emphasised that the military draws its strength from people and any effort to drive a wedge between the army and the people of Pakistan is an act against the state which is neither tolerable nor condonable under any circumstances.
Riots broke out earlier this month as the supporters of PTI chairman Imran Khan went on a rampage against his arrest from the IHC premises in the Al-Qadir Trust case. As the unrest ensued, the protesters torched government and military installations, and attacked an army vehicle in at least one instance.
