Riots broke out a day earlier following the arrest of the former premier by paramilitary Rangers in the Al-Qadir Trust case, followed by attack on the Corps Commander's house.

Clashes and riots were reported from the federal capital of Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Multan, Hyderabad, and Quetta. Section 144 was put in place in Peshawar and Lahore to contain the unrest.

Khan was arrested by a heavy force of the paramilitary personnel from the court premises where he had appeared to secure pre-arrest bail in multiple FIRs registered against him.

Earlier today, the former premier was indicted in the Toshakhana reference, and handed over to the NAB in the Al-Qadir Trust case that led to his arrest.
