In a major development, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to seek Interpol's assistance to bring Farah Khan alias Gogi back to Pakistan, it emerged on Friday.
The agency has reached out the organisation for the issuance of red warrants against the accused in the money laundering case against her.
Once the warrants are issued, the Interpol will proceed to take Farah – a confidante of former First Lady Bushra Bibi – into custody.
Sources told The Friday Times that Farah is already on the run to evade an investigation into the charges against her.
She is accused of using her undue political influence to mint billions via bribery and other corrupt means, and making assets through money laundering.
Farah is also believed to be involved in pressuring officials to have projects unlawfully awarded, making millions in the process.
During investigation, a bank account containing billions of rupees was found to be in her name.
As per initial investigation, the accused was found to have illegally allotted agricultural land in Faisalabad Industrial Estate measuring 10 acres an worth Rs600 million to her company for just Rs83 million.
Unusual transactions of around Rs849 million in her account were discovered during the last three years, when the PTI was in power. The transactions which did not match her sources of income.
It is believed that during Parvez Elahi's tenure in Punjab, Anti-corruption Establishment (ACE), on Oct 23, gave a clean chit to the accused in a corruption case filed against herself and her mother.
The case was subsequently disposed of by Lahore High Court (LHC), followed by Farah's departure from the country.
A close confidante of former premier Imran Khan's wife Bushra, Farah had a reputation of being behind official postings and transfers.
