Ali Amin Gandapur – a key leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf – was taken into custody from Dera Ismail Khan, on Thursday evening.
Soon after the PTI leader’s arrest, his brother, Faisal Amin was also held, as per reports.
Talking to media persons prior to his arrest, Gandapur said he had secured bail in all the FIRs, and that police do not have any existing warrants against him.
He claimed that he has now been named in some unknown FIRs by the law enforcement agency.
The exact reasons behind his arrest are unknown but Dawn quoted Bhakkar District Police Officer Muhammad Naveed as saying that a case was filed against Gandapur and two others two days ago for transporting illegal arms from the PTI leader's outhouse.
Police had also said that the arms recovered from the trio had been sent for forensic analysis. They maintained that the arms were being smuggled from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the party chief's Zaman Park residence.

According to Bhakkar district police, the weapons were concealed in the inner parts of the suspects' vehicle.
He went on to add that the suspect didn't stop at a police check-post, after which they were chased down and intercepted.
The police official said that the weapons included 22 rifles (222 guns), 42 magazines and 181 cartridges, licensed to a security company.
The report quoted the DPO as saying that the case is mysterious. Astonishingly, the licenses provided were issued by Balochistan government but were picked from KP, and the security company they mentioned was registered in Punjab.
It merits mentioning here that intense clashes were witnessed at Zaman Park last month when PTI workers put up a strong resistance against the police attempt to take party's chief Imran Khan into custody.
Several party workers were rounded up, while cases were filed against them for resisting police and firing petrol bombs at the personnel.
