Two judges of the top court on Monday asked Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to initiate the proceedings of the Supreme Judicial Council to hear the complaints against Justice Mazahar Naqvi.
"Written complaints have been received , including from the Pakistan bar Council, alleging misconduct and financial impropriety by Honorable Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, read the letter by Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, on Monday.
It added that Article 209 of the Constitution establishes the Supreme Judicial Council of Pakistan and it is the duty of the Council to inquire into the capacity and misconduct of a judge.
"Honourable Chief Justice, we are waiting for you to convene a meeting of the Council to consider the complaints and to ascertain whether there is substance in the stated allegations," the judges maintained.
The letter stressed that, "We must exonerate the respondent Judge and fully restore his honour or else submit our report in terms of the Constitution."

The judges warned that leaving the respondent judge under a cloud of uncertainty undermines both his and the Judiciary's repute.
Concluding, they said, "[The] confidence of the people in the integrity and independence of the judiciary requires us to proceed without any further delay."
Justice Naqvi is facing a slew of references against him in the Supreme Judicial Council after an audio leak allegedly involving him surfaced last month.
In the clip, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry was allegedly heard telling his brother Faisal to meet someone with the name of Mazahar and convey, “the entire truck is standing beside you, so tell us what to do now.”
Subsequently, several complaints were filed against the judge with the Supreme Judicial Council. On March 10, Pakistan Bar Council – the apex body representing the lawyers – filed a complaint of misconduct against SC judge Mazahar Naqvi with the SJC.
The body had asked the SJC to hold an inquiry and initiate “proper proceedings” on the information, related to Justice Naqvi’s “assets worth crores of rupees”, available on social media.
