The Parliament may adopt a resolution for simultaneous elections in Centre and provinces later this year, it emerged on Wednesday.
Sources say that the session was called with a focus on climate change, but it has three crucial issues on its agenda.
In addition to adopting a motion for simultaneous polls, MPs are likely to debate the recent audio leaks related to the learned judges and the ‘unilateral’ decisions being made.
The judiciary will be sent a message that it could only interpret the law and cannot abolish a law unless it was evolved to benefit or harm a specific individual.
The supplementary agenda may also include a resolution related to national security, though lawmakers, when asked, were unaware of this particular development.
The MPs may adopt a resolution to condemn the smear campaign against the military leadership on the social media, and express solidarity with the military leadership.
When asked, lawmakers of some of the coalition parties confirmed the agenda, but sources close to the premier have denied that there will be a legislation at the session.
According to them, in case of a possible key legislation, MPs are asked to ensure their attendance at the session, but they were unable to answer as to why the joint sitting had been called.
The Parliament will resume its proceedings on Monday at 3pm.
Earlier today, the ECP announced to postpone Punjab’s elections scheduled for April 30, saying the polls will now be held in the province on October 8.
It added that a “fresh schedule will be issued in due course of time with [the] poll date on October 8.”
On March 3, President Arif Alvi approved April 30 as the date for holding elections in the province, after reviewing the dates provided for the polls.
On March 1, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered that Punjab and KP polls must take place within the next 90 days.
