The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted protective bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in terrorism and corruption cases lodged against him.
In order to request protective bail, Imran Khan reached the LHC in a "decoy vehicle."
Via his attorney, Salman Safdar, Imran Khan had submitted two petitions asking for bail in the terrorism-related accusations brought against him. The petitions were taken up by Justices Farooq Haider and Shehbaz Rizvi.
The LHC had instructed Imran Khan to be present at 2:15 pm today (Tuesday) if he wanted the court to hear his request for protective bail in the cases.
Imran Khan's attorney was also instructed by the court to confirm his client's signature.
At the hearing today, the court granted protective bail to Imran Khan until March 27.
Cases against Imran
In a separate development, LHC' Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh heard a petition filed by the party seeking the records of cases filed against Imran.
During the hearing, the police produced a report in court which detailed six cases filed against Imran in Punjab.
However, Justice Sheikh ordered police to submit details of all the cases against the accused, including those filed by the FIA and NAB.
Violence on March 18
Following altercations between PTI workers and the police outside the Federal Judicial Complex after Imran Khan arrived there to attend the hearing of the Toshakhana case last week, Islamabad's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Police Station Golra Sharif filed cases against Imran Khan and several other PTI leaders.
The police said that the demonstrators used vandalism and arson in addition to attacking law enforcement personnel who were doing their job to keep the federal capital lawful and orderly.
Approximately two police cars, seven motorbikes, and the station house officer's (SHO) official vehicle were all destroyed, it continued.
As many as 18 people were arrested for arson, pelting stones, and vandalizing the judicial complex's building, according to the FIR.
In two NAB-filed cases against him, Imran Khan also submitted a plea for protective bail. The petition was heard by a two-member bench presided over by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi.
Subsequently, the court granted him a 10-day bail.
