Sushmita Sen, who had a heart attack earlier this month is now on the road to recovery and has resumed her work, too.

In a recent talk with Times of India, her cardiologist revealed how the Bollywood star’s fitness level helped limit the damage of the cardiac arrest.

“It’s difficult to say that but let’s say, Sushmita is blessed that she came in at the right time and the right place,” Dr Rajiv Bhagwat said when asked if the 47-year-old ignored any warning signs.

To a question whether Sushmita’s “high physical activity” played a role in limiting the damage,” he said, “Yes”.

“Her high physical activity indeed helped in ensuring that the damage was limited. This is the biggest message that has come out,” he added.

Dr Rajiv went on to add that exercising shouldn’t be done more than three or four times a week, not on a daily basis.

Earlier this month, Sen revealed she had a heart attack “a few days ago”, adding that an angioplasty had been done and a stent had been implanted, but didn’t specify whether the attack was minor or major. Posting a photo with her dad on her Instagram account, she said, “Keep your heart happy; courageous, and it’ll stand by you when you need it the most.”

According to the cardiologist, one should give time to the body to recover from the strain of exercise.

“I am certainly not advocating that one needs to push him/herself so much as if he/she is out there to become a physical trainer,” he said.

He added that with continuous exercise without rest and adequate sleep, “the hormone levels may not cool down and that poses a huge risk.”

A large number of well-wishers filled her comments section with wishes and prayers for her good health while hoping she will emerge out of this sooner than expected. Her fans also advised her to take good care of herself.
