Hamza Rauf, an inspiring young anchor and the only son of seasoned journalist Abdur Rauf, passed away in Lahore yesterday (Friday, March 10) due to a heart attack.
As a young child, Hamza hosted the program 'Hamzanama' on a private TV channel, where he used to interview religious scholars with an inquisitive yet humble and child-like innocence. The name of his show, meaning "epic of Hamza" or "Hamza's tale", was a play on his own name, as well as a reference to the Persian-origin chronicle 'Dastaan-e-Amir Hamza' or "adventures of Amir Hamza".

Hamza's meticulous research and respectful desire for learning attracted the respect of a broad audience of Pakistanis. His youthful aura also used to disarm the clerics he interviewed from any inhibitions they would have had in discussing matters of religious importance.
