Assets Beyond Known Sources: ‘Case Against Faiz Hameed Was Referred To NAB’
A case of alleged assets beyond known sources against former ISI chief Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed was referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) a few weeks ago, The News reported on Friday.

According to journalist Ansar Abbasi, informed sources in the NAB said that the former DG ISI was the subject of a two-page complaint signed by unidentified people from Chakwal that was received by the NAB's Rawalpindi office. He added that the complaint asked for the opening of an investigation against him.

According to sources, the DG NAB reviewed the file and, after consulting with his superiors, returned it with the instruction that the relevant authorities submit a formal request to the Bureau.

The sources said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was also aware of the entire incident.

With the appointment of Lt Gen (retired) Nazir Ahmed Butt as the new NAB chairman, it is anticipated that the matter will be returned to the NAB for the beginning of official proceedings against Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed, The News predicted.

On Wednesday, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah stated that the investigation agencies were conducting an inquiry against former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed and that the media would be kept properly informed of the case's development.

Which investigation body was conducting an inquiry against the former ISI chief was not made clear by the interior minister. Moreover, he made no mention of the specific charges against the former DG ISI.

But the minister asserted, "Only the institution may conduct Lt Gen (retd) Faiz's court martial," adding, "The General Headquarters holds the military trial, not the Interior Ministry.

In an interview with a web channel on Wednesday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz demanded the court martial of Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed.

Maryam stressed the necessity for Hameed to receive exemplary punishment in order to deter others from playing "unconstitutional roles" in the future.
