Police have lodged a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and the party’s senior leaders for "attacking police" and "using derogatory language" against state institutions in Lahore after Section 144 was imposed in the provincial capital.
As per the first information report (FIR), filed on the complaint of the deputy superintendent of police in Raiwand, a group of at least 300–400 people committed profanity against state institutions and spread violence throughout the city.
The FIR was lodged today under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), and Sections 147, 149, 353, 186, 302, 324, 188, 427, 290, 291, and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
According to the FIR, the PTI workers used abusive language against the institutions on the orders of former prime minister Imran Khan, Hassan Niazi, Hammad Azhar, Memoodul Rasheed, Farrukh Habib, Fawad Chaudhry, and Ejaz Chaudhry.
The mob threw stones at the police and attacked them with wooden sticks, inflicting injuries on 13 police officers and six PTI workers as a result of the brutality of their own party members, the FIR read.
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry severely criticized Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and termed him ‘General Dyer’ following the filing of a case against PTI in Lahore.
Fawad said he has been in Islamabad for the last two days, but he has still been charged with vandalism in Lahore.
On Wednesday, Punjab police fired tear gas shells and baton-charged PTI workers in clashes that left several injured on both sides.
Provincial Information Minister Amir Mir said that PTI workers attacked the police when they were ordered to disperse. "In retaliation, police used water cannons, tear gas, and batons to disperse them," Mir said.
He said at least seven police officials were injured during the clash and 12 PTI workers were detained.
It is pertinent to mention here that PTI called off the rally following the altercations.
