Legendary Artist Qavi Khan Passes Away, Will Pakistan Honour His Legacy?
Veteran actor Muhammad Qavi Khan (Qavi Khan) was a pillar of the Pakistani media industry. He performed in many PTV plays including Andhera Ujala and Alif, Allah Aur Insaan and maintained his role as a leading actor and star. One of his most famous roles was in Mirza Ghalib and his contributions to PTV are countless. Qavi Khan passed away in Canada on Sunday night after a kidney-related disease.

Recipient of the Pride of Performance and Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Qavi Khan’s demise leaves a big hole in the arts and it leaves one wondering what the future holds for the Pakistani media especially in entertainment.

Working in entertainment has never been easy but those who formed the bedrock of it did not just produce quality work but in fact upheld a culture of values and civil behaviour.

In today’s day where actors and actresses lives are lived and shared on the digital realm culminating in popularity contests, there are questions as to how legends such as Qavi Khan and their legacies are going to be preserved as golden standards for not just work but code of conduct? Will their work forever be relegated to archives that are lying untouched only to be damaged by the ravages of time?

There is a reason why the outpour of messages for Qavi sahib have been of great respect and reverence.

"The death of Qavi khan is a national loss. He was a brilliant actor, who has left a void that can never be filled,” said actor Javed Sheikh in a report. “The entire artist community is sad today. I pray that Allah grants him a place in Jannat al-Firdous.”

"I am shocked and I am sad. Qavi Khan was a legendary actor. He did so much for our television industry. His whole career is a testament to the brilliant performer he was. But aside from being a great actor, he was also a fine gentleman and a wonderful human being,” said Sakeena Samoo.

“Qavi khan was among those stars of the country that did a lot to entertain the public back in the era of PTV. I remember Mirza Ghalib, which was a hit drama. Qavi performed in many hit PTV plays and was among the most famous actors of all time” said Ghulam Mohiuddin.
