An anti-terrorism court's (ATC) judge issued remarks regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan after he appeared before the courts at the judicial complex in Islamabad with a large number of party workers.
During the hearing of a case at the ATC, the judge remarked that the PTI chief had come before the court with 2,000 people.
He said that although Imran Khan titled his party Insaf, its supporters chanted "Zindabad" and "Murdabad" slogans.
The judge stated that although Imran Khan uses British examples, he does not respect the court. The judge remarked, "He took goons along with him and did not respect the court during his appearance."
The ATC judge added that he has the CCTV tape of the incident and said, "Now he will keep me busy with the court proceedings for the next year."
On March 1, PTI chairman Imran Khan and the workers of his party were booked in a case for alleged vandalism outside Islamabad’s judicial complex.
According to the FIR registered on Wednesday, a group of at least 2,800 armed workers of the party led by its chief stormed the complex. It added that the workers were ‘carrying firearms and stones’ during their act of public disturbance.
The case, filed on the complaint of SHO Ramna, named Ghulam Sarwar, Farrukh Habib, Shibli Faraz, Tahir Sadiq, Raja Basharat, Shahzad Wasim, Murad Saeed and Abdul Qudous Khan Swati and other leaders of the party.
It said that PTI leaders spread fear and terror among judiciary, police, and Federal Investigation Authority, a day earlier.
"The workers broke court benches and chairs of security staff and also threatened to kill the security staff," it said. "The mob broke the security cameras installed in the court premises as well."
The case was filed under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), which includes sedition, interfering with the government and taking the law into one’s hands.
Hours after the top court’s verdict in the Punjab, KP elections case, Imran took to Twitter to welcome the move. "We welcome the SC judgement. It was the responsibility of SC to uphold Constitution and they have valiantly done that through their judgement today. It is an assertion of rule of law in Pakistan." The former premier on the occasion also announced to suspend the ongoing Jail Bharo movement and ‘move towards electioneering’.
A day earlier, Islamabad police took 25 people into custody for vandalism during the arrival of the PTI chief at the complex.
The former premier had reached the complex to appear before the courts in multiple hearings and was granted bail in them afterwards.
Shortly after the alleged vandalism, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said all efforts would be made to arrest Imran Khan after the unacceptable attack on the judicial complex.
According to the interior minister, PTI chairman came to the complex with a criminal intent. "Attacking the courts is an act of terrorism and two cases have been lodged over the incident."
