Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed concern over the high price of chicken meat in the country and inquired from the authorities concerned about the massive rise in its price.

As the chicken meat has crossed the Rs 700 per kg mark, the prime minister questioned the officials concerned, “Why was there an increase in the price of chicken if there is no shortage of food?”

PM Shehbaz made these remarks while presiding over a meeting on the availability and price control of essential items during Ramazan. He directed “strict legal action against hoarders and profiteers” to bring the prices of essential items back to normal.

The premier said strict action should be taken against anyone found involved in profiting, hoarding, or overcharging. He ordered the district administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure price control across the country.

Prior to Ramazan, the prime minister ordered that cleaning projects be carried out in markets, godowns, and stores. Additionally, he instructed the officials to take strict action against those involved in overpricing.

PM Shehbaz also delegated authority over the cost of goods and their availability during Ramadan to the chief minister and the federal government.

The premier warned sternly that action would be taken against the officers of the areas concerned if there were any disruptions in supply and demand or the prices of the commodities. He then slammed the authorities for being powerless to regulate the cost of chicken meat.

The prime minister stated once more that anyone upsetting people during Ramadan should not be shown any tolerance; instead, they must face legal consequences. He issued orders for the arrest of everyone involved in oppressing people for financial gain.

Prior to Ramadan, the PM also ordered that utility stores all around the nation be supplied with high-quality goods, and that mobile utility stores be put up during the holy month. He commanded, “Take the prayers of those who fast during Sahar and Iftar.”

The prime minister also directed the establishment of Sasta Ramazan bazaars throughout the federation and provinces.
