Bilawal Wants Graft Laws To Cover Former And Serving Judges
Foreign Minister and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday said that the laws of accountability should be applicable to judges, too, saying he would 'himself propose the amendment in the law'.

"If it’s about corruption, it can be everywhere, whether it’s parliament or judiciary," the minister said as he addressed a seminar organised by the partyto mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the Constitution.

"So whatever reforms are proposed for this law, one amendment I would present myself that this law should also be implemented on the judges whether they are serving or retired," he maintained.

Wondering as to why judges were interested in accountability laws, Bilawal said it was "quite visible" as these 'didn’t apply' to them.

"For how long would we go with this concept of holy cows?" he asked. "There should be the same law applying to the commoners and the judiciary or any other institution. Every Pakistani, under the law, deserves the same treatment."

The foreign minister further said that NAB was formed for political engineering and the PPP wants it shut.

On Saturday, Mian Dawood, the SJC petitioner against Mazahar Naqvi in the assets beyond means case, said that the judge's assets grew 'astronomically' after he was elevated to the country’s top court.

According to him, the learned judge also allegedly influenced the outcome of a hearing to acquire a specific property.

“The assets of the judge and his family grew by Rs3 billion ever since he was appointed to the Supreme Court,” Dawood said, citing the documents available with him.

Justice Naqvi is one of the judges who have now recused themselves from hearing the suo motu hearing into the KP and Punjab polling delay.

The judge was also purportedly featured in an audio leak with former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi, allegedly discussing fixing a case before a particular judge or bench.
