Parvez Elahi Joins PTI With 10 Former MPAs
Former chief minister Punjab Parvez Elahi on Tuesday announced to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf along with 10 other former MPAs of the PML-Q.

The development came hours after the ex-CM's party membership was terminated by Chaudhry Shujaat, his brother and PML-Q president.

Addressing a presser in Lahore, Elahi said, "I have always stood in support with former prime minister Imran Khan in tough and testing times”.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice President PTI Fawad Chaudhry said, “Parvez Elahi has parted ways with PML-Q and joined PTI.”

The veteran politician told media persons that the PTI chief has assured giving him the role of the party's central presidency, adding "deliberations in this regard will be completed soon."

He, on the occasion, expressed firm support for Imran, and said that he and other MPAs were thankful to him 'for the opportunity'.

Elahi vowed to make decisions that will be beneficial for the province and the country. "We would never do anything that may bring harm to the PTI."

Responding to a question on whether he was given a hint by the establishment to join the former ruling party, he said, “If it's a hint, it’s a good thing; I try to take everyone along.”

Last month, Elahi revealed that he had been offered PTI’s presidentship by the party’s chairman. It came amid the reported disagreement between the two over his deepening ties with the former premier.

In the same month, he had endorsed his son Moonis Elahi’s stance on joining the PTI, saying "Moonis, too, wants the PML-Q to merge with the PTI.

Imran had earlier expressed interest in the two parties joining forces for common goals. He had proposed the idea during a meeting with journalists at his Zaman Town residence on Jan 14.

Elahi's joining comes a day after President Arif Alvi announced Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections on April 9.
