The Director General of Pakistan's 'premier' intelligence agency, the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum will likely deliver a keynote address at the upcoming Munich Security Conference scheduled to be held in Germany on February 17, media sources reported on Saturday.
The Munich Security Conference (MSC), which began in 1963, focuses on security and military issues. The annual security forum is attended by over 45 chiefs of state and government, as well as over 100 ministers from across the world.
As per media reports, DG ISI Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum is expected to attend the annual security conference and probably deliver a speech on "Asia Pacific Strategy and Implications for Pakistan."
According to media reports, the details of the ISI chief speech at Munich Security Conference, including whether it will be a public or closed-door event, are not yet ascertained. "It is expected that ISI chief speech at Munich Security Conference will be regarding the current Afghan situation," it added.
It is pertinent to mention here that in 2018, Pakistan's then-army chief Gen. (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa also attended the Munich Security Conference, and delivered a speech on "Jihadism and Caliphate".
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar will also attend the upcoming conference. The Pakistani foreign minister will have bilateral meetings with top envoys, and sources say that efforts are underway to arrange a meeting between Bilawal and his US counterpart, Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
A large delegation from the United States, comprising over a third of the US Senate, will also attend the annual security conference. The MSC will also host the chiefs of several vital international organizations, including the UN, NATO, and the EU.
