A Pakistani-American officer of the New York Police Department (NYPD) who was shot during a robbery while off-duty has died at Brookdale University Hospital.
On February 4, 2023, Pakistani-American NYPD officer Fayaz Adeed was shot during a robbery on Ruby Street in East New York at around 7 pm. He was there to buy a car he saw listed on Facebook Marketplace.
The robber pointed a gun at Adeed and demanded money from him. The officer was hit by a bullet in exchange of gunfire.
Pakistani-American NYPD officer Adeed was then transported to Brookdale Hospital. He had been on the force for five years and is survived by a wife and two children.
The Pakistan Consulate in New York also issued a statement, saying: “Our deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of Adeed Fayyaz, an NYPD officer of Pakistani descent.”
Police Officer Adeed Fayaz was a father, a husband, a son, and a protector of our great city.
Officer Fayaz was shot Saturday night and he tragically succumbed to his injuries today.

New York Mayor, police commissioner, New York City administration and Pakistani American community have expressed grief over the murder of officer Adeed.
A 38-year-old man suspected of shooting the officer has been arrested in Rockland County, New York, where he was found hiding out in a hotel, according to police. The suspect has been charged with murder and attempted robbery, police said.
