‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’: Citizen’s Question Leaves Hammad Azhar Answerless
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar was interrupted by a citizen during a press conference on Wednesday when the former federal minister was questioned about his willingness to go to jail as per former premier Imran Khan’s announcement of "jail bharo tehreek".

While hurling questions at the PTI leader, a citizen asked, "Do you have the courage to go to jail following Ex-PM Khan’s announcement of ‘jail bharo tehreek’?" Upon which the former minister started reiterating the assassination attempt on his party chief in Wazirabad and the martyrdom of his party workers in the attack. He further said that the party leaders and workers are not afraid of detention and torture.

He said the PTI will take part in all by-elections, provincial assembly elections, and national assembly elections and will achieve victory with a great margin.

He said the Punjab caretaker government will not be able to work after 66 days, and if they try to do so, Article 6 will be applied to them.

On the other hand, President Arif Alvi has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to immediately announce the date for elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

The Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies were dissolved on January 18 and January 14, respectively, after former prime minister Imran Khan had announced that his governments in the two provinces would dissolve their assemblies to pave the way for fresh polls.

In a letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja today, Alvi said that the election of an assembly is to be held within 90 days of the dissolution as provided by Article 224(2) of the Constitution.

He highlighted that the conduct and holding of elections was the primary and essential duty of the ECP as per PART VIII of the Constitution, particularly Article 218 (3) which assigned the duty to the ECP to ensure the holding of fair and free elections.

The president conveyed that it was ultimately the commission, which if it failed to discharge its functions and duties, was to be held responsible and answerable for the violation of the Constitution of the country.
