The chances of success of the ‘jail bharo threek’ unveiled by PTI chairman Imran Khan today seem slim, says Zaigham Khan.

The journalist told Khabar Say Aagay host Raza Rumi that the aforesaid movement isn’t easy to launch or take forward, and people won’t take to the streets for the former premier as being perceived.

“It seems that the PTI chief is quite perturbed at the current situation, especially after he lost his ‘blue-eyed’ individual status. It seems what he is worried about the most is his own arrest,” Khan added.

On the incitement of violence cases, he stressed that these should have been lodged against the former ruling party a long time ago.

Journalist Amber Shamsi said Imran is resorting to such measures because the noose stands tightened.

“He now knows that his trip behind bars is certain, so he doesn’t want to do it alone; it’s a card that he has decided to play,” she said.

According to analyst Murtaza Solangi, Imran knows how to speak, but what he doesn’t know is how he can make any such campaign successful.

Addressing his supporters via video link, the former premier told party’s leaders and workers to wait for his call to initiate the movement.

According to Imran, the campaign would help convey to the ruling coalition who people will side with.

“The fact is people didn’t come out despite his repeated calls in the past,” the analyst added.

Earlier today, the former PM announced to launch a ‘jail bharo tehreek’, saying he would make a formal announcement in this regard soon.

Addressing his supporters via video link, the former premier told party’s leaders and workers to wait for his call to initiate the movement.

According to Imran, the campaign would help convey to the ruling coalition who people will side with.

On the occasion, he accused the ruling party of using tactics to delay general elections, saying he never came across an interim government which was ‘busy in targeting political rivals’.

“After passage of 90 days, Article 6 will be applied to those who are part of the caretaker setup, in case polls aren’t held.”

The ex-PM had a similar movement in October last year to pressure the government to announce snap polls. Also, during the 2014 sit-in, he had asked his supporters to launch a civil disobedient movement.

Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
