Upon hearing news that General Pervez Musharraf had died, Twitter users from around the globe had mixed reactions. The former military dictator leaves behind a complex legacy.
“Pervez Musharraf, Former Pakistani President, Dies of Rare Disease”: once an implacable foe of India, he became a real force for peace 2002-2007. I met him annually in those days at the @un &found him smart, engaging & clear in his strategic thinking. RIP https://t.co/1Pvqp8cvjE

General Pervez Musharraf has passed away. He was a veteran of 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. He was decorated with Imtiazi Sanad for gallantry when he jumped into a burning gun position as a Lt and took out artillery rounds to avoid loss of lives in Chawinda. May his soul RIP. pic.twitter.com/Pct0Z5O1A1

My sincere condolences to the family of #Pervez_Musharraf. He was able to withstand pressures of all kinds and put aside ideological differences to request Cuba's aid after the Kashmir earthquake in 2005. I will always remember his sincere feelings of towards my country and Fidel pic.twitter.com/8bQam2m0Um

Pervez Musharraf is no more!!
I remember him for counter-terrorism measures, initiatives in Karachi, economic, education and media reforms.
However, I also remember him for Laal Masjid operation, war on terror, Aafia Siddiqui, NRO.
May he rest in peace!!— Ovais Mangalwala (@ovaismangalwala) February 5, 2023
Gen.Pervez Musharraf’s demise marks the departure of one of Pakistan’s memorable strongman leaders . Even as he flexed the country’s military muscle, he was eager for recognition from India .
I had the privilege of being the first Indian journalist to interview him. RIP, General! pic.twitter.com/e1zqX8BA5l— Malini Parthasarathy (@MaliniP) February 5, 2023
India toured Pakistan in 2004 and 2006 when Pervez Musharraf was Pakistan President and welcomed the players with open arms. Famously told MS Dhoni not to cut his hair (saying the long locks suited him) and was an instant hit with Indian team

“We brought Mujahideen from all over the world, we trained and armed the Taliban and sent them inside (Afghanistan), they were our heroes, the Haqqanis are our heroes, Osma Bin Laden was our hero.”

For the same things that Ayub, Yahya, Zia and Bajwa will be remembered for. Breaking up the federation by their foolish paradigms while wasting important eras of our history in their madness and machinations, leaving our necessary political institutions in tatters, economy ruined, extreme poverty of masses and majority uneducated youth with no prospects of jobs. RIP!
