Outside an Islamabad court hearing his petition for bail and release from remand, former interior minister and president of his own Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said that five people were plotting to murder him.
He was presented before a judicial magistrate in Islamabad who heard arguments for and against his release. Law enforcement authorities have asked for five day's extension in Sheikh Rasheed's physical remand as cases against him have been registered in Karachi and Lasbela, among other jurisdictions. Sheikh Rasheed's lawyers have petitioned for his release and argue the cases against him are politically motivated.

Sheikh Rasheed also alleged that he had been tortured and blindfolded, and he had been videotaped at least four times. He claimed his life was under threat from the police, and demanded that Pakistan Rangers be deployed to protect him.
The aged politician almost fell from a flight of stairs, but was caught by a police commando. It took Sheikh Rasheed some time to compose himself and recover.

Speaking to journalists from behind a heavy security cordon that tried to 'escort' him away, Sheikh Rasheed said that if anything happened to him, the five people he identified — former president Asif Zardari, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, interior minister Rana Sanaullah, and caretaker Punjab chief minister Mohsin Naqvi — should be nominated as his killers.
