Take Notice Of ‘Brazen Interference’ By Intelligence Agencies, Imran Tells Alvi

The most recent reflection of this, he added, was the KP Governor’s statement saying he cannot give a date for the polls to the legislature as “that would be given by the intelligence agencies and the establishment.”

PTI chief Imran Khan has asked President Dr Arif Alvi to take notice of the “brazen interference by intelligence agencies and some other sections of the establishment in the political sphere,” it emerged on Thursday.

The former premier conveyed his concerns to the presidency in a letter dated January 29, 2023.

The most recent reflection of this, he added, was the KP Governor’s statement saying he cannot give a date for the polls to the legislature as “that would be given by the intelligence agencies and the establishment.”

He also stated that, “They are afraid that I will win if the elections are held on time,” but warned that the said move would be a violation of the Constitution, and invited the application of Article 6.

Imran also urged the presidency to take notice of the abductions, custodial torture, and threats being meted out to PTI workers and leaders.

He also referred to the resolution passed by the party in this regard, which pointed to the “growing interference’ by intelligence agencies and other sections of establishment in the political sphere.”

A day earlier, Imran expressed concerns at the letter sent by KP governor to the ECP regarding the poll schedule, alleging ‘those in power’ wanted to use the law and order situation to delay elections.

Governor Haji Ghulam Ali had written to the ECP chief, asking the top electoral authority to consult all political parties before deciding a schedule for elections in the province.

In his letter, Ali had raised concerns on the ‘alarming law and order situation” following Peshawar attack.

“Militancy was prevalent in 2013 and 2018, too, but that did not result into a poll delay.”

Addressing his supporters via video link, Imran Khan opined that the governor should not have written the letter.

“They are using the Peshawar incident to delay the polls,” he said. “If they succeed in delaying the elections, it will be disastrous for the country.”

He had also stated that, “They are afraid that I will win if the elections are held on time,” but warned that the said move would be a violation of the Constitution, and invited the application of Article 6.

“Militancy was prevalent in 2013 and 2018, too, but that did not result into a poll delay.”

In a previous address, former premier had accused PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and ‘powerful agencies’ of being behind a plot to kill him, inviting a strong reaction from the party’s chief Bilawal Bhutto and others.
