Heavy snowfall was observed in Chitral after 15 years due to which the roads of various valleys including the Kalash Valley were blocked for all traffic, with commuters and residents facing immense difficulties.

Keeping in view the issue, Executive Engineering Department of Communication and Works (C&W) Riaz Wali Shah immediately began clearing the roads via the M&R maintenance and repair fund.

The provincial department of C&W had tasked the Drosh Construction Company to remove snow from the valleys and open them for traffic.

In various valleys across Chitral, it engaged tractors that began clearing the roads with blades and other equipment.

Shah said that they have made their efforts to open the roads for traffic at all times and people should not face any difficulties regarding the issue.

He added that despite its limited resources, the department was removing snow from all the roads which were closed for traffic.

Drosh Construction Company Director, Subedar (retd) Haider Ali Shah said that as soon as they received instructions, the machinery started moving, the team visited the valleys and cleared snow from the roads.

He added that Rambor Valley, Bomburit Valley, Brier Valley, Sweer Valley, Ursoon, Janjirit Koh, Midgalshit, and internal roads of Darosh, Chitral West Road, Beuri, Arundu, Hospital Road, Old Bazaar, Mughalanda and Governor Cottage roads have been cleared.

“Our tractors are removing snow from these roads using various equipment to facilitate the public and provide convenience to the people.”

Meanwhile, Shahi Gul Kailash, a well-known social worker from Kailash Valley, said the community was facing a lot of difficulties and could not even take their patients to hospital, but the C&W department provided tractors and cleared the roads.

Gul thanked the department and its respective contractors who started work immediately and cleared the roads.

Zia-ul-Qasim, a resident of Kailash Valley, said, “our road closed due to snowfall has been opened.” He demand the authorities concerned to widen the road and build it soon.

Another resident, Sakina Kalash strongly demanded Prime Minister Shehbaz to play his role in building the road.

Other residents of Bomburit including the shopkeepers, and tourists and passersby thanked the relevant department and the construction company for their efforts to bring ease to their lives.
