Prominent journalists Hamid Mir and Iftikhar Ahmed exchanged heated arguments on Sunday while participating in a current affairs talk show hosted by Nasim Zehra on a private news channel.

During the program, Iftikhar Ahmad tried to confront Hamid Mir and hurled cross questions multiple times to halt Hamid Mir’s flow.

Upon this, Hamid Mir became infuriated and responded to Iftikhar Ahmed by saying, “You are declaring me the establishment’s agent without even listening to my point of view.”

Soon after Hamid Mir left the program in anger, host Naseem Zehra intervened and lightly snubbed Iftikhar Ahmed for dishonoring her guest speaker.

Did former Chief of Army Staff, Qamar Javed Bajwa threaten Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a martial law just a few days prior to his retirement? Was he violating his institution’s policy of remaining neutral?

The fact is that neither PM Shehbaz, nor PTI chairman, have spoken the full truth so far; they are fighting with one another but are silent about the man who perpetrated the fight, says Hamid Mir.

“That’s what wrong with our democracy,” the columnist observed in his latest piece published today.

Is Pakistan still under an unannounced martial law, Mir questioned. “The truth needs to be spoken about Gen (retd) Bajwa, under whose term the notion of an unannounced martial law gained strength.

Three days ago (Dec 26), the senior journalist claimed that the establishment’s preference was to make Shehbaz Sharif prime minister in 2018, but because the PML-N president “refused to betray” his brother and his party, the establishment was left with no choice but to go with Imran Khan.

Mir had also said that he was telling everyone a fact that nobody would be able to refute.

This is why the establishment chose to bring in Imran Khan as the prime minister in 2018. In that sense, Mir argued, ‘credit’ also goes to Shehbaz Sharif – not just the establishment – for making Khan prime minister in 2018.
