On January 26 Babar Azam was picked for both the ‘ODI Cricketer of the Year’ and the ‘Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of 2022’.

The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy is a prestigious award given to the best player across all formats by the International Cricket Council.

This year it has been awarded to Babar Azam making him the second cricketer from Pakistan to win the award. He follows Shaheen Shah Afridi who was the previous recipient.

Babar Azam made his mark as he chalked up 2,598 runs at an imposing average of 54.12. It is reported that he was the only player to break the 2000-run mark in 2022 across all formats. In Test cricket, he made 1,184 runs from just nine matches.
