In South Korea, all men from by the age of 28 must complete 2 years in the military as part of the Military Service Act Article Three: "Every male in the Republic of Korea shall faithfully perform mandatory military service, as prescribed by the Constitution of the Republic of Korea and this Act. A female may perform only active service or reserve service through volunteering."
South Korea's parliament in 2020 released a bill in which they stated that any South Korean who excels in popular culture and art can defer their compulsory military service until the age of 30. BTS 's influence is so profound in South Korea that they passed a bill specifically because of their contributions to their country's arts and culture. Their fan base 'A.R.M.Y' is arguably the largest and most devoted in the world, most of them comprising girls and young women of all backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities.
BTS member Jin posted on the K-pop community site Weverse recently in a South Korean army uniform and stated that he was in good health and spirits, that he was enjoying his time in the army and wished his fans well.
It is assumed that BTS will reconvene by 2025 as all members will have completed their compulsory military service by then.
