Quarters In PMLN Against Nawaz Sharif's Return, Claims Journalist
There're some people within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ranks who don't want the party supremo to return to the country at this time, according to a UK-based journalist.

"There're some people in the incumbent federal government who don't want Nawaz Sharif in Pakistan at the moment," Azhar Javaid told Dunya News on Monday.

The journalist, an international affairs expert, quoted the Law Minister as saying that the necessary tweak in the law that could enable Nawaz' return was not possible as of now.

He added that the ruling party hopes that the top court may set the disqualification aside along the lines of the decision in the Faisal Vawda case last November.

Javaid further said crucial progress is awaited on the legal front with regard to the Parliament's move on the length of the disqualification.

Nawaz earlier reportedly directed his party to prepare for the elections, indicating his possible imminent return to the country ahead of the possible forthcoming polls.

The former premier had also asked his party to be prepared as Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi would seek a vote of confidence from Punjab Assembly this month, according to media reports.

It merits mentioning here that the party chief recently expressed optimism about being with the people and in the country. He made the aforesaid remarks at a Christmas event held in the UK.

In Dec last year, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said preparations to welcome the party supremo back home were underway.

According to the minister, Nawaz’s return will help the party bag the much-needed votes in Punjab. He had also at the time challenged the PTI chairman Imran Khan to dissolve Punjab Assembly.

Sanaullah was also recently quoted as saying that the general elections will take place in October 2023. He had also categorically stated that the electioneering of the party will be led by Nawaz himself.

What further fuels the notion are the directives reportedly to the party high-ups to bring the price of petrol under Rs190 per litre before his return.

PML-N sources say the party supremo wants petrol at the aforesaid price as well as relief for power consumers utilising a maximum of 300 units.

Nawaz has been residing in London since November, 2019 after he was allowed to leave Pakistan to receive medical treatment.
