Thousands of people took to the streets in Wana, South Waziristan to protest against the fresh wave of terrorist incidents in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district as well as in other parts of the country.
Pakistan has been witnessing a fresh wave in the terror attacks in K-P, Balochistan, and other areas. The attacks are believed to be perpetrated by outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan based in Afghanistan.
The residents of the province demanded the authorities to 'do more' to cleanse the territory of militants.
People from all walks of life joined the peaceful march as they held placards against the efforts to disrupt peace in the tribal areas.
A day earlier (Jan 5), at least 11 terrorists, including a militant commander and two suicide bombers, were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Tanai area of Wana.
According to a statement yesterday by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces “successfully foiled a high-profile terrorist activity” by executing the operation.
“During intense exchange of fire, 11 terrorists, including terrorist commander Hafizullah alias Toor Hafiz and two suicide bombers, were killed,” it said.
The ISPR added that a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the killed terrorists.
“The killed terrorists remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces, and target killing of police in South Waziristan district”.
Over the past few months, the country’s security situation has worsened, with proscribed terrorist groups like the TTP, Islamic State, Hafiz Gul Bahadur network, and Baloch separatists executing attacks with impunity across Pakistan.
The TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in late November 2022, and ordered its militants to carry out attacks across Pakistan.
