Stan Lee is undisputedly the most influential writer, publisher and media mogul of the modern era as well as the 20th century being rivalled only by J.K Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter series and Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson, the founder of DC Comics. He was born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York City on the 28th of December 1922. He was born to Jewish-Romanian parents in Manhattan and after several years and enduring many hardships, especially during the Great Depression, he rose through the ranks of a family-run business called Timely Publications although most people nowadays know it as Marvel Studios.

100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee.

In collaboration with writers and artists like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko he created iconic characters like the X-Men, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Iron-Man, Thor, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four and many others. These characters out-lived Stan himself when he died in Los Angeles, California on November 12th 2018 at the age of 95. Stan appeared in cameos in the Marvel movie franchise several times over the years after his retirement from Marvel in 1990.

One of the ways in which his comics were unique compared to other characters at the time was that he displayed real world concepts through his characters and stories such as racism and discrimination. Referring to Spider-Man, Stan said that one of the reasons why he think Spider-Man is so popular and happens to be one of his favorite creations is that Spider-Man can be anyone behind the mask. That’s why he’s often referred to in the comics as ‘The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’. Spider-Man isn’t some reclusive personality that hides from drawing attention to himself but rather one that puts himself ‘out there’ and helps everyone from all walks of life. That and his relatable personality makes him so popular among his fans.

Twitter and social media in general have been buzzing for the last 18 hours with people wishing Stan Lee’s departed soul well and sharing his cameos online as well as their experiences with the Marvel franchise. Stan Lee may have left this world but his legacy will most probably outlast even more generations than it has already.
